Classes for the 2024-25 School Year

OUR MISSION: To inspire a life-long appreciation and love of nature by connecting children with the outdoors. We do this by immersing ourselves in nature and using it as our classroom. 

SCHOOL OF THE WILD: Completely outdoors, our classes at School of the Wild are held at Lovett Pinetum, our home campus. We use nature study as our educational backbone and offer plenty of opportunities for exploring, self-directed play, and discovery. School of the Wild provides a secular, multi-age learning experience in the best classroom - the great outdoors! 

A typical day of classes includes a morning nature lesson as well as student-led exploration and snack time. We have a lunch and play break mid-day, followed by an afternoon nature art, experiment, or mini-project session, along with poetry tea time.

Our 2024-25 Class Offerings...

Nature School LIVE ages 8-12 years: 

Using our Nature School book and workbook, hands-on activities, and exploration of forests, fields, creeks, and wetlands, we will learn about five major biomes around the world. These include temperate forest, desert, seashore, grassland, and wetland ecosystems. 

Classes will meet at Lovett Pinetum Wednesdays from 9am-noon on the following dates. Fall semester classes are full, but we have already started spring sign-ups!

Fall: 10/23, 10/30, 11/13, 11/20, 12/4 

Spring: 2/26, 3/13, 3/26, 4/9, 4/23

Tuition - $250 per semester or $450 for both

Each enrolled student will receive their own copies of Nature School and Nature School: The Workbook on the first day of class.

Kinder Classes ages 5 to 6 years:

Kinder classes will discover the delights of local flora and fauna.

Tuesday or Thursday from 9:00am-2:00pm

Tuition - $960 for the school year or 8 monthly payments of $120

*10% sibling discount for additional students enrolled from the same family

Explorers Classes ages 7 to 12 years:

Explorers will continue their study of Missouri ecosystems as we explore the remarkable karst topography in our region.

Tuesday or Thursday from 9:00am-2:00pm

Tuition - $960 for the school year or 8 monthly payments of $120

*10% sibling discount for additional students enrolled from the same family

Adventurers EcoLab ages 13 to 16 years:

Adventurers will participate in a hands-on ecology lab with studies in birding, entomology, aquatic ecology, soil, dendrology, and wildlife tracking.

First Wednesday of each month (6 total) from 9:00am to 2:00pm 

Tuition - $300 for the school year or $150 per semester

*10% sibling discount for additional students from the same family enrolled in this program

SotW FAQ:

Is this a drop-off school, or do you offer family-style classes. 

Our classes are drop-off programs where your child will spend the day with us. Nature school complements any school classes or curriculum and is a way to add hands-on science, art, social studies, language arts, math concepts and more to your child's learning.

Why do you charge tuition? 

Our classes have many costs associated with them such as insurance, teachers, facilities, activities, field equipment, and supplies.

What will you do if it's raining or snowing? 

Rain, snow, sunshine, fog, it's all weather that we can learn in and about. We will dress for the weather and have a blast! In the case of dangerous weather, we have a safe, indoor gathering space. 

What does my child need to bring? 

Students will need to bring a water bottle, snacks, and lunch with them as well as things like weather-appropriate shoes and clothing, bug spray, and sunscreen. We will send out a supply list for registered students. We provide all outdoor equipment and many supplies for students to use.
